The site is located in the settings of the Woodley Green Conservation Area and was formerly used as a builder’s depot since the second world war. Former existing depot buildings on the site were of low quality and heavily impacted on neighbouring residential properties. Gardens to the North, East and South were heavily overshadowed and overlooked and access to natural light was restricted.
The design primarily responds to its neighbours by pulling back the development from sensitive boundaries and ensuring that there is no direct overlooking. The design of the care home has been carefully considered within its surrounding context and to replaces disused buildings with a modern, fit for purpose, high quality, care home. The home achieves 50m² build space per resident, making it a particularly efficient design.
